Dear Friends: It is indeed a privilege for me to write you concerning the happenings
here at The Tuba Exchange. As always, a lot has happened since our last
issue.
Eastern Music Festival Participants Visit TE
Lee Hipp, Principal Tuba with the San Antonio Symphony, and tuba
instructor It is always a pleasure for me to meet and hear young, talented students. It was also a great pleasure to hear Lee play test instruments, as well. We wish Lee and his students all the best for the future, and thank them for their visit. |

and has several other interest. Jim's latest invention, the "Dent
Eraser," could possibly revolutionize dent removal for large brass
instruments. Suffice it to say, it works almost magically to remove
dents in areas of a tuba or sousaphone that would normally be impossible
to reach without disassembly. I was astounded by how well Jim's invention
removed large and small dents from the used tubas and sousaphones we
provided. We hope to give more details about the "Dent Eraser"
in our next newsletter. Jim was also kind enough to share with me his teaching philosophy regarding embouchure and breathing. I felt as if I were in a master class and still feel that Jim is one of the best teachers of tuba and euphonium we have. I thank Jim for all his wonderful insights, and we look forward very much to his next visit. Markus Theinert Visits TE Markus Theinert, Clinician and goodwill ambassador for the Miraphone Company, visited us in August. He brought with him Miss Kari Osborne who is the new liaison for U. S. Miraphone dealers. |

Matt Ransom, Principal Tuba, Winston-Salem (NC) Symphony Visits TE Matt Ransom, Principal Tuba of the Winston-Salem (NC) Symphony, visited us this Summer to play test 5/4 CC tubas for himself. Matt is a graduate of the North Carolina School of the Arts and has been with the Winston-Salem Symphony for several years. Matt became smitten with a very nice used 5/4 CC tuba we had, and purchased it to use in the orchestra. We appreciate his choosing The Tuba Exchange at which to make his purchase, and we hope he has a rewarding concert season. Jim Akins Visits TE One of our best friends is Jim Akins, Principal Tuba for the Columbus
(OH) Symphony and Tuba/Euphonium Professor at Ohio State University.
