Dear Friends:

It is always a privilege for me to write you concerning the happenings here at The Tuba Exchange. As always, a lot has happened since our last issue.

Bill Rose Visits TE

One of our best friends is the legendary Bill Rose. Bill served as Principal Tuba of the Houston Symphony for almost 30 years and taught at the University of Houston even longer. Bill has retired from playing and teaching but is still very highly regarded by Bill Rose demonstrates St.Petersburg tuba at TMEA.his many former students andorchestra colleagues. We first met Bill at the 1995 Texas Music Educator convention in San Antonio, when he came to our booth to try, for the first time, the St. Petersburg model 201N BBb tuba. He was very impressed by it. So much so, that he spent a week on his personal metal lathe designing a mouthpiece to help maximize the playing potential of the St. Petersburg tuba. Bill spent election night with us at our home, looking for the election results which, as we all know, did not materialize until several weeks later. Bill is still an amazing player. His ability to evaluate the new models we had received was very helpful. It was wonderful to have Bill with

us and to get to know him during his visit. We look forward to having him visit us again soon.

TE Exhibits at Midwest Clinic 2000

Once again - our 14th year - The Tuba Exchange exhibited successfully at the Chicago Midwest Band and Orchestra clinic, held every December at the Hilton and Towers hotel in downtown Chicago. The weather was a big factor this year as large snowstorms were rolling through the region all December. We were very fortunate to have our Operations Manager, Xavier Everett, assisting me at the Clinic. Xavier was able to drive from Durham to Chicago and back, with very few weather related delays. Even though the weather was a factor, the attendance at this year's clinic was excellent. We were extremely busy at our booths with our St. Petersburg model 201N BBb tuba as our most popular instrument. Many band directors stopped by to say how much they were enjoying their St. Petersburgs and how these instruments had transformed the sound of their bands with the rich full tone that they produce.

Another popular instrument we exhibited at MWIBOC 2000 was our Kalison CC 4/4 tuba. Kalison tubas have been used by the U. S. Air Force and U.S. Marine bands and are beautiful sounding, well-made instruments available
at a very reasonable price. Kalison DS 4/4 CC TubaThe current price for our Kalison, Daryl Smith model 4/4 CC, in silver, is only $5,495.00. Please check our web site, www.tubaexchange.com, for more information about the Kalison tubas we offer.

We were delighted to have with us at the Clinic, Mr. Jim Akins, Professor of Tuba and Euphonium at Ohio State University, and Principal
tuba with the Columbus Symphony Orchestra. Jim has been a great friend of The Tuba Exchange for almost 15 years. His extremely knowledgeable and enthusiastic assistance at our booths was very much appreciated. Thank you, Jim, for all your help.
